Fiery leaves of Quaking Aspen dance on an autumn breeze. The playful leaves are attached by flat stalks that cause them to flutter or “quake” in the wind. In autumn, one can see stands of genetically identical trees mapped out as they turn color all at once. Trees within such a stand are clones, connected by a common root system. A stand of clones can regenerate and live for thousands of years.
