The snow sprinkled La Sal mountains rise in surreal contrast to a foreground of sandstone arches and sprires. A land of amazing juxtapositions, Arches National Park is a feast for the eyes and provocative for the spirit. Though relatively small, the park contains over two thousand natural arches and countless sandstone hoodoos, spires and domes. Long recognized as a geological wonder, the area became a National Monument in 1929 and was subsequently designated a National Park.
