A dusting of winter drapes the sturdy boughs of a piñon pine. Scratching a living from the sandy landscape of the Cedar Mesa/Grand Gulch Plateau, the piñon pine is the source of the delicious pine nut. The Anasazi, who settled the area around A.D. 200, suplemented their diet of corn and squash with roasted or ground pine nuts. The "Ancient Ones" inhabited this region for over 1000 years and left a rich legacy of their passing.
